A Travel Guide to Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur
A part of the palace is home to the current royal family, the magnificent and beautiful palace of 347 rooms was named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, the grandfather of the current owner, Gaj Singh and is one of the world’s largest private residences. Another wing is now managed by the Taj Group of hotels with 22 rooms and 42 suites which provides everything – spa, gym, pools, garden view rooms, billiard and tennis court, free wi-fi and fine dining.
Do you know that the marble in the palm court of this palace is the same as that used in Taj Mahal? Built for providing employment to 2000-3000 workers during famine of 1920’s and was completed around 1943!

Things to do in Umaid Bhawan Palace

Another fort from the Rajput era, marked by the exquisite architecture of the amazing stone carvings that leave you in awe! Mehrangarh Fort was built by Rao Jodha in 1459, it is one of the largest fort in India.

Rides over Mehrangarh – If you have that gut in you, you may opt for an aerial view by riding on zip lines above the fort and nearby Chokelao gardens. You get the picturesque view of the blue city and the shimmering lakes.

At the foot of Mehrangarh, is Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park. You may take a local guide to help you explore the Biodiversity Park which is home to several migratory birds and scenic splendour. A perfect place for flawless snaps!
The Jaswant Thada was built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Sngh II and you get to see tombs and portraits from the early days. This sheer architecturally amazing structure was also built in memory of a peacock which visited the funeral pyre of the Maharaja!

The amazing collection of glass bangles at Bibaji Churi Wale near Manak Chowk is over hundred years old and is sure to make you stop here and choose your colour and design of bangles! Not only bangles but you can also shop for handicraft and home decor from the local stores.
The Palace museum is open daily from 09:00 AM to 5:00 PM, however in order to view the amazing interiors you need to book a room here!
Best Time to Visit
In summers, the climate is too hot and the maximum temperature reach upto 41° C. October to March are the pleasant time, whereas daytime is perfect!
How to Reach
Just book your tickets to Jodhpur airport and then get a bus or taxi to reach the palace.
Book your tickets to Jodhpur Station, then you may avail state transport buses to the palace.
