Rajasthan International Folk Festival in Jodhpur 2020

Rajasthan International Folk Festival in Jodhpur welcomes musicians from all over the country and the world to exhibit their inherited talents. Jodhpur’s RIFF is a great platform for folk artists to make a loud noise with their performances to acknowledge the people about the folk artists greatness. It’s like a festival of happiness and joy with cultural performances continuously for five days.

The festival takes place at Mehrangarh Fort which is Asia’s Best Fortress and the fest takes place during the full moon days means “Sharad Purnima”. Even UNESCO also had given support to the festival as “People’s Platform for Creativity and Sustainable Development” due to its attractions.

The Chief Patron of the festival is Jodhpur’s Maharaja H.H. Gaj Singh and the International Patron is Sir Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones. Since 2007, the fame and popularity of the festival growing year by year due to the extreme celebrations.

Festival Schedule for the Year 2020

This year, festival will start from 29th October to 2nd November 2020 with full of celebrations. The event takes place in Mehrangarh Fort and around its surroundings. Here in this festival, you will be bowled to the performances by the folk artists from all over the world.

Let’s have a look what are specials on each day of the fest.

29th October

The first day of the festival starts with Children’s Folk Morning from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM in Veer Durga Das Memorial Park. This beautiful morning will be filled with music, dance, storytelling and a lot more. Actually, this day is special for all school groups in Jodhpur to experience the festival. Especially, this day morning is meant for school groups who have invitation cards.

When it comes to the attractions of this morning are Kachhi Ghodi, Bahrupiya, Kawa Circus, Jogi Kalbeliya Nritya, Phad, Kavad, Chang Nritya, and music performances of Langa community. Kachi Ghodi is a beautiful dance performance in a dummy horse form with men in different costumes and they dance according to the beat of drums. It is a wonderful dance performance.

Jogi Kalbelia Nritya is the most famous dance performance in all Rajasthan dance forms. It is a well-known dance form performed by snake worshipper and charmers and their movements are as it is like a snake which is the specialty of the dance form. Phad and Kavad are wonderful performances of storytelling. Phad is important one by explaining with folk paintings according to the drum beats. Like these, beautiful musicians from Langa community etc tops this morning show.

Opening Night-City Concert a wonderful concert outside of the Fort in Jaswant Thada at night from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM. This concert is open for all and no entry fee and the show of two and a half hour will be glorified with traditional performances. The show or the concert starts with ‘Lakha Khan Manganiar’ a famous folk singer and known as Sarangi Maestro will cherish the show with his performance.

Young musicians from Jaisalmer and Barmer will show their talent with their wonderful short excerpt in the Desert Lounge at Rao Jodha Park. ‘Shafi Sopori’ a great Sufi singer from Kashmir and his performance is one of the extraordinary performances at the concert.

Finally, a group of drummers will rock the show with a stunning drum section of with traditional war drum, double-sided drums etc. This is the schedule of the day 24 with full of celebrations with traditional musicians performances and dance performances.

30th October

The day 2 will start on 25th October and the entry fee for non-pass holders is 100/– and free for donor pass holders. RIFF Dawns with the Meghwal of Marwar a soothing song performances by Mahesha Ram, Bhallu Ram, and Tamachi Ram belongs to Meghwala community. At early morning they will start their ragas and bhajans by praising their Guru Ram Dev Ji.

Dance Boot Camp will be held at Chokelao Bagh (Mehrangarh Fort) from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM. At this camp, different dance sessions will be performed of the Kabeliya and Ghoomar dancers. Fort Festivities will be carried throughout the Fort from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. At this session, a number of traditional dance performances will be performed and they are Chang Nritya, Derun Nritya, Gair, Gavari of Mewar, and Bhils of Vagad.



In Residence at Chokelao Bagh (Mehrangarh Fort) from 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM. This one is known for Kashmir Music by Shafi Sopori, Mohammed Muneem, and vocalist Vibha Saraf. They will deliver the beautiful Kashmiri traditional song performances. Living Legends session takes place near Dhana Bhiyan Chatri (Mehrangarh Fort) from 5:45 PM to 7:15 PM. At this session famous vocalist, Suguna Jogi and Dapu Khan performances will be delivered.

Moody RIFFS is the stand for main stage performances in Old Zenana Courtyard (Mehrangarh Fort) from 7:45 PM onwards. This show will be celebrated with music by Kalbeliyas with Mohini Devi, Shafi Sopori and Makan Ashgvari. Desert Lounge will be held at the Rao Jodha Desert Park from 11:30 onwards. Here you can enjoy the desert environment with Rajasthan traditional musician performances. Like this, schedule of the 2nd day will be carried.

31st October

The day three will be started with RIFF DAWNS with Hidayat Husain Khan from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM at Jaswant Thada. The entry fee is 100/- for non-pass holders and free for donor pass holders. At this music session, Hidayat Husain Khan song performance is the highlight of the show. As like as day 2, Dance Boot Camp and Fort Festivities processions will be same like dance performance by Kabeliyas, Chang Nritya, Derun Nritya etc.

IN Residence II takes place at Chokelao Bagh (Mehrangarh Fort) from 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM. This session will be glorified with the poetry of Meera Bai by the famous folklorists C.P.Dewal, Mahesha Ram, Sumitra, and others. A beautiful performance to be experienced in the RIFF. Moon Rise session at Jaswant Thada from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM is an experience-able night with the performances of vocalist Manesha Agarwal.

Strings and Beats will be a great stand at Old Zenana Courtyard (Mehrangarh Fort) from &:30 PM onwards to have the beautiful musical performances by the Langa community. This session is the main stage for many international musicians like famous vocalist Ana Pinhal, Wouter Kellerman, and Alif. These three people rocks the stand with their melodious performances.

Club Mehran will take place at Salimkot from 11:30 onwards and this musical session is known for electronic world rhythms of Italian and African off-beat songs. Jose Marquez influenced music will rock the show at night with electronic rhythmic songs. Overall, day 3 will be fully packed with many international musicians and artists.

1st November

Day 4 will be empowered with RIFF Dawns by Pempe Khan, Asin Khan Langa, and Dharre Khan Manganiyar. This magnificent concert will be started from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM at Jaswant Thada. The show will begin with Pempe Khan by his plaintive notes welcoming the sunrise. Remaining Asin Khan Langa and Dharra Khan Manganiyar and etc will sing beautiful devotional songs by using different traditional instruments.

Belly Dance Boot Camp takes place at Chokelao Mahal (Mehrangarh Fort) from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM. At this session Kathak and belly dancer, Ada Kyra entertains everyone. Fort Festivities will be also same as like Day 2 with the same processions like Chang Nritya, Derun Nritya, etc.

The Roundhouse Sessions will take place near Dhana Bhiyan Chatri (Mehrangarh Fort) from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The major attraction of this session is the Bush Gothic Band from Australia. Audible sung-stories from this band are unique and mainly concentrated on the issues of criminal women and hopeless men.

Insights a main stage performance at Old Zenana Courtyard (Mehrangarh Fort) from 8:30 PM onwards. The major attractions of this session are Baramasa by Shubha Mudgal, Sindhi Sufiyana with Sawan Khan, and Tanxuguerias. Mainly “Baramasa” by Shubha Mudgal is an extraordinary show by composing the part of Breathing Life Series.

RIFF Rustle show will be held at Old Zenana Courtyard (Mehrangarh Fort) from 11:30 PM onwards. RIFF rustle is the largest collaboration with Gene Peterson, International percussionists, Rajasthani artists, musicians, and singers. A great show should be watched at Jodhpur RIFF. This will be the schedule of day 4 with these performances and entry fee is 100/- for non-pass holders and no fee for donor pass holders.

2nd November

The last day will be ended with RIFF Dawns with Vidya Rao a famous thumri singer of our recent times. The show will take place at Jaswant Thada from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM and the entry fee is 100/- for non-pass holders and free for donor pass holder.
